@dbhbabyd Exactly. Better education, not more hours. I know of private schools where kids are learnign things in Kindergarten that public school jr high students might not be exposed to. And they do just fine with it.
You know wats ironic, education dosent come from school. Learning dosent come from teaching, it comes from experiences. social studies has no influence on critical thinking skills, philosophy does. cancer and aids cant be cured. the #1 reason why people drop out is because they have classes they KNOW they dont like as well as not going to use it in the future anyway. And yet their stuck with it wasting their time. We get no free choices. this is why school sucks.
Also you dont really know what your learning is the truth or not. people just tell other what they “think” they know…or believe, so at the end of the day your only given opinions, not facts from almost anything. also theres places where the books are actually lies, to cover up the truth, or simply not revealing anything at all. Somehow every textbook is diffrent from one another. i remember theres a state where mexicans arnt allow to learn their history…i forgot which tho.

The only people who spinned this as brainwashing are those intolerant bigots who can not accept a black person as the President and are desperate for a smokescreen to hide their bigotry and hatred. There can be no other explanation. Where I come from, we don’t even need anyone to motivate us to learn, anyway. We are self-motivated towards education as a way out of poverty.
Government (public schools) are an utter failure and a collosal waste of money. Why anyone would want to increase the amount of money thrown into this rat hole? Every study out there shows home schoolers and private schoolers educate more with less money. End government schools now. Allow citizens to take their tax money they opay for government school and pay for far btter private schools instead.
I’m all for higher education and what not, but one needs to have a conscience as well. How can we seriously allow people with “Special needs” to attend college? If they have to take out large amounts of money to attend, how in the world are they going to pay it back. You think banks give a fuck if they are “Special.” On the flip side, how can an average student afford to take loans, when there is a growing fear that the jobs might not be there when they get out?
With outsourcing, rampant technological advancement, pay cuts and reduced benefits, and colleges jacking up the prices, these are things every politician talks about but doesn’t do much to curb the issue. I guess we’ll have to see how well Obamacare works out. Oh yeah, it would help if this hypocritical administration didn’t cut science programs.

i did not vote for this guy. but i agree with this speech. i came from a neighborhood growing up where only about 2% of people actually graduate with a bachelors degree. i am about to graduate and go to a Masters program then PhD in education. start working hard EARLY and beleive me it will pay off

Why do politicians keep repeating the same thing over and over!!!?? What we need is TRANSFORMATION of education. I see kids in other schools and they are bored of school because the KNOW what they are learning WONT be very useful anymore in today’s world.
