It is called “Das Deutschlandlied” (The song of the Germans) and since the foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany, you no longer sing the first stanza anymore. Since the foundation in 1949 you sing the third stanza instead: “Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit”
Technically, it’s an “Official Visit” not a “State Visit”, as Chancellor Merkel is the “Head of Government”, not the “Chief of State”.

I really loved the “hand shakin’ thing” at ’7’00. That was “really American”. Nothing like this would EVER take place here in Germany – because we don’t adore our politicians – we criticize them – every day – and a lot! No place for such a ceremony

This lady pushes her neighbor european countries into austerity. Will Merkel ask Obama to cut the deficit and stop the fall of the dollar (which hurts european exports and creates inflation all over the world)??? The dollar downfall and the fact that commodities are priced in dollars, is partially the reason behind riots in north Africa.
