Why did Michelle Obama voluntarily give up her license to practice law?

In 1993, Michelle Obama "voluntarily" put her law license on inactive status. Does anyone know why?
I heard there was an "issue" and it was either she do it voluntarily or they suspend her. Anybody know the details? I also heard that Barack doesn't have his license either.
