If the Obama administration goes after the previous administration, it opens them up to the same scrutiny by the next republican administration. So, I wouldn’t bet on it.
When the Democrats took power in Congress, Nancy Pelosi immediately announced that an impeachment against President Bush was ‘off the table’. She didn’t want to look vindictive or unprincipled (as the Republicans did when they impeached Clinton), and she didn’t want to occupy Congress and the media for months and months in a bitter partisan battle. Obama doesn’t either.
When the Republicans impeached Clinton, they knew they didn’t have the votes in the Senate to remove him from office. It only took a simple majority in the House, so they did that, hoping just to embarrass Clinton and make him less effective. But Clinton’s popularity reached its highest in his whole two terms during the impeachment, and it was never less than 66% after that. Obviously the impeachment backfired on them, it hurt them more than it did Clinton.
Now the Republicans are fight a war against Obama with extreme language, and that is also hurting them more than the Democrats. Obama doesn’t want to suddenly look like the bad guy. The Democrats don’t want to villanize and demonize the Republicans, like vice versa. History will judge Bush and his buddies.
They never will, Obama wants to move on. That however leaves the door open for another Bush to come along.
I don’t think Bush wants to go outside of the US very often. He is likely to be charged in some other country.
I think Obama, by law, is colluding to cover up crimes that were committed by Bush and hindering prosecution, which is a crime. The attorney general works for the People of the United States, Not Obama. Rodriguez and the justice department thought they worked for Bush.
By not prosecuting the memo writers of the infamous torture memo’s, it makes a mockery of those in Japan we executed, and the Nuremberg trials where we convicted people for doing the exact same thing.
The Bush administration was criminal and should have been prosecuted. He was never going top be impeached as they did not have 2/3 votes to convict him, just like they did not have them for Clinton.
We need to move forward not backwards.
