@J801506 The Soviets were there from Dec 1979 to February 1989. At that time the USSR was at the height of their power. The Mujahideen whipped their ass and the Soviets began to withdraw in 1988. The Mujahideen did get secret help from the US and friend Bin Laden. Yes, Bin Laden was a friend at ally at one time.
The scary part is after Afghanistan it was the beginning of the end of the USSR. 1989 Berlin Wall and the eastern eurpoean communist fell. Russians will never go back to Afghanistan.

Mr. president if really terrorism is matter then we have to coup with the factors, from where its originates. To every one its clears that terrorist spread to the world from land of Pakistan, so then why not we deal with that terrorist country in terms of strong military counter act coz diplomacy is not working there. Barack Obama, all the problems that exist in the Middle East must be resolved by themselves! The more the U.S. wished to somehow solve or help will always be seen as unwelcome meddling and therefore, causing more terrorism around the world! Any change in any country or region must come from within, made by themselves!

Obama has the impeccable style, but his problem is he thinks that governments can do good. Governments have a history of achieving the opposite of what they say they want to achieve. War on drugs = more drugs, more criminals, more violence. War on whatever – what is it good for? Other than benefitting the war economy, that is.
