@xxdonaldqxx What you are presenting has NOTHING to do with the fact that McChrystal insulted his Commander in Chief, was fired for his “diarrhea of the mouth” and went down in disgrace.
How can they have respect? By living up to the standards of their solemn oath.
No matter what McC did in the past, he will always be remembered as being fired from Command while the nation was at war. If that isn’t disgrace I don’t know what is.
@hoz49 Some people might look at McCrystal the way you do but I think many will look at him as a person who had the guts to speak out and not just follow orders.
@xxdonaldqxx We can see where your sympathies lie. Paint it anyway you want. Unfortunately the “orders” McC was following were his own. The current Afgan strategy was his, not President Obamas’.

You talk about Obama as commander in chief then tell me the Afghan strategy was all McCrystal’s and had nothing to do with the Obama administration.

I agree with you that Clinton obviously shouldn’t have ignored the opportunity to get bin Laden, but Bush, when given a warning in August of 2001 that he was determined to attack the USA, responded by carrying on with his vacation. If that had been a Democrat who had done that, I wonder if you would be so defensive of him. My guess is probably not.

Mr. Obama needs to leave the wars to the warriors and the politicking to the windbags and the armchair generals who hobnob there in that great big amusement park on Capitol Hill. If memory serves me correctly, it was the Afghan war that did much to collapse the Soviet system, demoralize the Russian people and create a “second rate” society of the Soviet Union. “Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat those lessons”. Remember, the sad lesson of Vietnam? Obama doesn’t.
Opinion : McChrystal is so smart he made all this up to escape the US defeat in Afghanistan under his watch. (remember Vietnam)
