How come Michelle Obama is being attacked for saying, basically the same thing as John McCain?
7 CommentsPresident Obama
Michelle Obama said that for the first time in her adult life, she is proud of her country. John McCain has said in an interview that he never loved his country until he was kept apart from it. I don't think it's right to attack either candidate for saying those things but for some reason people Michelle Obama's comment is being focused on. How come John McCains comments are not focused on if people want to make a big deal out of this stuff?

Well firstly, what Michelle Obama said was taken out of context. She said it is the first time she was REALLY proud of her country. She didn’t say it was the first time she was proud of her country.
Secondly, even if she did say it was the first time she was proud of her country, it is different than what McCain said.
John McCain more than likely did not mean it the way he said it. He obviously has to have love for his country to serve in the military for it.. If he didn’t believe in America, he never would have joined the military to fight for it. He meant he loved it more.
John McCain had to change a lot and grow as a person a lot… Michelle Obama didn’t have to change at all… John McCain grew as a person, where Obama stayed the same… its different and IF that is what she had said, which it isn’t, Obama’s comment would be worse.

At the risk of sounding like an Obama supporter, I’m going to say "out of context". (Completely and totally by the way – source please.)

They’re didn’t say the same thing.
McCain, after seeing Vietnam and how crappy it was there, loved his country.
What experience led Obama to finally be proud of America?

Its totally unfair. So he didnt love his country before he got tortured in Vietnam? What, they taught him how nice the US was in vietnam??
Also, you know Cindy McCain is like 70 yrs old, and she say She’s always been proud of her country. WHat about when African Americans were being tortured and killed because of stupid racists? Was she proud of that?

They said very similar things. What McCain actually said was he didn’t love America until he was denied her. We can speculate as to why. Though I think it is clearly evident. Especially since her remark was taken out of context and turned into something ugly.
